“Malcolm in the Middle” star Frankie Muniz has just made a shocking confession, stating he has never had a sip of alcohol — and he is 38 years old.
The childhood star, who is now a professional race car driver, opened up about his history (or lack thereof) with drugs and alcohol while appearing on Mayim Bialik’s podcast.
“I’ve still never had a sip of alcohol,” Muniz told the “Jeopardy!” host on her podcast, despite growing up in the spotlight.
Frankie Muniz Opens Up About His Drug and Alcohol History
Muniz rose to fame after starring in the hit “Malcolm in the Middle” from 2000 to 2006, which then led to him landing many movie roles — but despite being a childhood actor, he says he did not find himself heavily involved in the Hollywood world.
“Were you raised in a tradition that did not drink?” Bialik asked the now 38-year-old, to which Muniz confessed, “Every family member in my family drinks. And that’s what they do for fun,” adding a laugh.
The “Agent Cody Banks” star went on to explain that there is no rhyme or reason as to why he never drank alcohol. “I tried to figure out why I didn’t, because I don’t have a reason. It wasn’t, like, a religion,” he shared before explaining that it could be related to his “hatred towards time.”
“When I was 15, 16 years old, I felt like I was so old. I had experienced so much. And I had experienced a lot in my life in comparison to most 15 or 16-year-olds, but even though I was in the entertainment business, I never saw it,” he said about Hollywood’s drug use.
“I somehow stayed away,” he added.
Frankie Muniz Reflects On Family Life
Frankie Muniz and his wife Paige Muniz, who eloped in October 2019 before they married in February 2020, welcomed their first child in May 2021.
“When we found out we were expecting, I think we were both in a state of disbelief,” Paige said after the announcement. “We knew that we wanted this, but we were told our chances weren’t that great.”
“The struggle of going to every doctor’s appointment made me feel less and less like a woman,” she said, adding, “I’m excited to say that we’ve beat the odds and we’re officially 15 weeks along and counting.”
After the two welcomed their baby, Muniz expressed, “While we still believe it’s the little moments in between the big ones that make you feel happiest, nothing quite compares to hearing your little one’s heartbeat.”
Frankie Muniz Recalls First Interaction With Alcohol
Once Muniz turned 18, he had his first interaction with alcohol, but decided not to take a sip — and still hasn’t to this day.
“I couldn’t believe everyone’s reactions when I said I don’t drink,” he explained on the podcast, adding that his friends would say, “‘Oh, we’re at a club, we have a bottle. You want a drink?’ ‘No, I don’t drink. I’m good with water.’ Everyone was either shocked or appalled that I didn’t drink. Or they’d be like, ‘Wow, that’s so strong of you.’”
“I was always kind of like, ‘It’s so weird that people have such a strong reaction to me not drinking,’” he said. “Like, who cares? I don’t care what you do. Why do you care so much about me?’ I don’t know if I made a conscious decision, but it just stuck with me that I was never gonna drink or do anything.”
“But now I’m 38, and I think I’m going to start tonight,” he said with a smirk, adding, “Only kidding.”
