The upcoming Western film, “Rust,” starring Alec Baldwin, has resumed production in New Mexico in 2023 following the tragic shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021. The film, which now has a first-look trailer, is set for a theatrical release in May.
Written and directed by Joel Souza, with a story co-created by Souza and Baldwin, “Rust” features a stellar cast including Travis Fimmel, Josh Hopkins, Patrick Scott McDermott, Frances Fisher, and Jake Busey.
Set in 1880s Kansas, the film follows recently orphaned Lucas McCalister (Patrick Scott McDermott) who unintentionally kills a rancher and finds himself sentenced to hang. His estranged grandfather, notorious outlaw Harland Rust (Alec Baldwin), rescues him from jail and together they flee towards Mexico, pursued by U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and bounty hunter “Preacher” (Travis Fimmel).
“Rust” is a poignant tale of redemption and the blurred lines between good and evil in the Wild West frontier. Despite the controversy surrounding the film and Baldwin’s public image, the new footage showcases stunning cinematography credited to the late Hutchins.
