‘Dog Man’ Dominates at the Box Office in January with ‘Companion’ Close Behind

Dog Man had a strong showing at the box office from Jan. 31-Feb. 2, raking in $35 million and securing the top spot, showcasing the power of family-friendly films. With a global debut of $40.2 million, Dog Man quickly recouped its production costs, excluding marketing expenses.

In North America, Dog Man had the second-best opening weekend for an animated film in January, trailing only behind DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 3” from 2016. The movie follows the story of a man and a cop who merge into one body, creating Dog Man, a unique creature dedicated to protecting and serving.

Directed by Peter Hastings, Dog Man features a star-studded cast including Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, and Isla Fisher. The film, based on Dav Pilkey’s graphic novel series, has garnered critical acclaim and audience praise, with a coveted A CinemaScore.

New Line and Warner Bros. also found success with their sci-fi horror film, Companion, which grossed $9.5 million domestically in its opening weekend.
