On a brisk November evening in New York City, a fleet of drones elegantly soared over the Hudson River, forming intricate shapes above a ship on the water.
This mesmerizing display featured iconic characters from Walt Disney Co., set to the tunes of Disney classics. Scenes included the genie from Aladdin, Madame Leota from The Haunted Mansion, and Dante from Coco.
As “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana played, the drones created the Heart of Te Fiti above the ship, followed by a champagne bottle formation to christen the Disney Treasure cruise ship by Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Moments before the drone show, Iger, accompanied by Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro and Mickey and Minnie Mouse in nautical attire, addressed guests at Chelsea Piers, overlooking the newly christened Disney Treasure.
Highlighting the ship as a representation of beloved Disney elements, Iger praised the Cruise Line for bringing the magic of Disney to audiences worldwide.
The Disney Treasure, which commenced its inaugural voyage on Dec. 21, showcases Disney characters and themes throughout the vessel. From bronze statues of Aladdin and Jasmine to intricately themed restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, the ship immerses guests in the world of Disney.
With a focus on adventure, the ship features dining experiences like the Coco-themed restaurant and attractions like The Haunted Mansion bar. Every detail, from decor to entertainment, is designed to transport guests to familiar Disney worlds.
Disney’s live entertainment on board includes Broadway-style shows like The Tale of Moana and interactive experiences with characters like Chewbacca and Belle. The ship also offers movie screenings, trivia contests, and intimate performances for guests to enjoy.
Looking ahead, Disney plans to expand its cruise fleet, with new ships like the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure scheduled for launch in 2025. This growth is part of Disney’s overarching strategy to offer unique and immersive experiences across its various platforms, including cruises.
The integration of Disney IP in every aspect of the Disney Treasure is a testament to the company’s commitment to storytelling and creating magical experiences for fans worldwide. With a focus on authenticity and attention to detail, Disney continues to set the standard for themed entertainment on land and sea.
