Sony is commemorating the 20th anniversary of God of War with exciting surprises set in digital Norse mythological realms, an LA art studio, and even your old record player. The standout feature is Kratos’ incredibly cool Dark Odyssey skin. Back in 2007, acquiring this skin in God of War II required hours of intense gameplay on the most challenging mode. However, in 2025, all you need is a copy of God of War: Ragnarök.
The Dark Odyssey collection will be available as a free update on March 20 for all players of God of War: Ragnarök on PlayStation and PC. This update includes Kratos’ striking black and gold look, along with Dark Odyssey-themed armor, weapons, shields, and more for Kratos, Atreus, and Freya.
For players who haven’t fully upgraded their weapons, it’s important to note that the Dark Odyssey weapon skins are only accessible for fully upgraded weapons. Fortunately, Santa Monica Studio is introducing the ability to customize weapon attachments and shields in the game.
As part of the 20th-anniversary celebration, Sony is releasing a plethora of merchandise, including new art prints, a two-volume retrospective book set documenting the franchise’s evolution since 2005, and a 13-LP soundtrack set featuring Kratos’ iconic moments over the past two decades.
A must-have for any God of War fan is the 67-inch Jörmungandr, complete with a magnetized tongue to hold a removable Leviathan Axe. Additionally, Southern California residents can visit Gallery Nucleus in LA for a special God of War exhibit featuring new artwork and concept art inspired by the franchise.
For newcomers interested in exploring the God of War series, PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra members can claim the last three games—God of War Ragnarök, God of War (2018), and God of War III Remastered—from the game catalog. PC gamers can also purchase discounted versions of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök on Steam.
