Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our lives, making tasks easier and more efficient. However, concerns about privacy and trust still linger among Singaporeans. According to a recent study by KPMG, 80% of Singaporeans accept AI, but 55% are unsure or unwilling to trust the technology.
To delve deeper into Singaporeans’ thoughts on AI, we spoke to three individuals about their experiences and concerns. Saarvaneetha Sivakumar, a data science student, highlighted the benefits of AI in verifying answers and improving schoolwork. However, she raised concerns about the technology’s accuracy and data privacy.
Similarly, Sasha Nicole Nair, an avid online shopper, expressed apprehensions about data misuse and third-party sharing. On the other hand, Nur Ubaidah, a senior account executive, believes in the benefits of AI in the medical field but emphasizes the importance of secure data usage.
To address these concerns and foster a better understanding of AI, the National Library Board has launched Catalyst in collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Catalyst aims to provide a platform for Singaporeans to discuss the role of trust in AI adoption and promote responsible AI usage.
The program includes panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities with industry leaders. Participants will engage in brainstorming sessions and collaborate with industry partners to address AI-related challenges. The program will culminate in a 90-day sprint where attendees will develop prototypes under the guidance of industry experts.
As AI technology continues to advance, understanding its potential and risks is essential. To learn more about Catalyst and participate in the program, visit the National Library Board website.
