Bill Maher discusses the first major scandal of the Trump administration in the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time. The scandal involved national security officials inadvertently adding an editor from The Atlantic to a Signal group text chain where plans for an airstrike in Yemen were being discussed.
During his opening monologue, Maher mocked the national security team for handling classified information so casually over text. He joked about the use of emojis and teased the officials for their lack of professionalism.
Maher also reacted to President Trump’s claim that the information in the Signal text chain was not classified, emphasizing the seriousness of the leak. The Atlantic later released the text messages revealing the attack plans on Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Guests on the show included California Gov. Gavin Newsom, linguist John McWhorter, and political commentator Rikki Schlott.
