At the Los Angeles premiere of Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight, rapper Big Sean shared a personal connection to the film’s story. The movie follows the real-life Charity Adams, who led the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II. Big Sean’s grandmother was one of the 855 women who served in this groundbreaking Women’s Army Corps unit.
During the red carpet event, Big Sean expressed gratitude to Tyler Perry for shedding light on this overlooked piece of American and Black history. The 6888 battalion played a crucial role in connecting families with over 17 million pieces of mail during the war, despite facing segregation and fighting for their country.
The emotional evening brought together the cast, including actress Ebony Obsidian, who met Lena Derriecott King, a battalion member, on her 100th birthday. King’s story inspired Perry to write the script for the film, highlighting the resilience and bravery of these women.
Kerry Washington, who plays Charity Adams in the film, was deeply moved by the opportunity to portray such a strong historical figure. Working with Tyler Perry, Washington felt privileged to be part of the project and honored to share Adams’ legacy with audiences.
The Six Triple Eight premieres on Netflix on Dec. 20, offering a powerful and inspiring look at the untold stories of these remarkable women during World War II.
