Banijay Entertainment, a leading content production company based in France, announced a new leadership structure for its central scripted division. Steve Matthews has been appointed as the head of scripted creative, while Johannes Jensen will serve as the head of scripted business. Both executives will report to chief business officer Frédéric Balmary and will work together to support the company’s extensive portfolio of over 60 dedicated labels.
Matthews previously held the role of content partnerships executive, while Jensen served as the head of scripted for Banijay Nordic. Jensen has led production labels Jarowskij and Yellow Bird, which have now merged as Jarowskij/Yellow Bird. Banijay highlighted Jensen’s expertise in co-production and navigating industry changes, while Matthews has been instrumental in supporting the scripted community and enhancing the storytelling pipeline since joining in 2023.
The company stated that Matthews and Jensen will leverage their expertise to further develop their roles and expand Banijay’s presence in the global scripted market. Balmary expressed confidence in the duo’s ability to strengthen the company’s creative and business acumen and continue to lead in the industry.
Matthews emphasized the importance of supporting editorial teams and fostering creative partnerships across Banijay Entertainment’s scripted network to maintain a reputation for high-quality storytelling. Jensen emphasized the significance of collaboration in creating a successful slate of scripted content and highlighted the new leadership structure’s focus on aligning deal-making skills with creative prowess.
Banijay Entertainment has achieved success with scripted projects such as Ripley, The Sixth Commandment, Like Water for Chocolate, Billionaire’s Island, and NCIS: Sydney.
