Anora Wins Best Picture at Critics Choice Awards; Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Substance Earn Three Awards Each

Anora emerged victorious as the best picture at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, with Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Substance each taking home three trophies.

The top acting honors went to Adrien Brody from The Brutalist for best actor and Demi Moore from The Substance for best actress. Other notable winners included Zoe Saldaña for best supporting actress and Kieran Culkin, who won best supporting actor for A Real Pain.

Emilia Pérez received two additional awards despite controversy surrounding past tweets from Karla Sofía Gascón, who was a nominee for best actress. The awards ceremony, held in Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, saw a somber mood but celebrated Netflix’s musical with wins for best foreign language film and best song alongside Saldaña’s victory.

On the film front, Wicked stole the spotlight with a surprise win for best director for Jon M. Chu and additional awards for production design and costume design. The Substance also had a successful night, taking home trophies for best original screenplay and best hair and makeup.

In the television categories, Shogun dominated by winning four awards, including best drama series, followed by Hacks with three wins, including best comedy series. Baby Reindeer claimed the limited series award.

Chelsea Handler hosted the awards show, which had moments of celebration but also acknowledged the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The show aimed to raise money for relief efforts related to the wildfires, which had caused significant destruction in the area.

Overall, Conclave and Wicked led the film nominations with 11 nods each, followed by Dune: Part Two and Emilia Pérez with 10 nominations. Shogun was the most nominated TV program with six nods.

E! aired the ceremony, which had been rescheduled due to the wildfires’ impact on Los Angeles. The event featured a star-studded lineup and a range of winners across various categories.
