In an alternate Marvel Cinematic Universe, Amanda Seyfried had the opportunity to play Gamora in the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” films. However, the actress followed her instincts, allowing Zoe Saldaña to take on the iconic role instead.
Seyfriend discussed the potential casting during her appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. Despite admiring James Gunn after meeting him for the 2014 film, Seyfried ultimately decided to listen to her internal doubts. She revealed, “It was a huge opportunity. I had just met James in person. He’s a fantastic person. I got the offer for it, mulled over it for a couple of days, but I didn’t want to live in London for six months out of the year for whatever reason.”
She had intriguing roles lined up, including one with Seth McFarlane, which made her hesitant about taking on the “Guardians” role. Seyfried expressed concerns about potentially being part of Marvel’s first flop and preferred a different opportunity that came her way. In the end, Seyfried declined the offer to play Gamora, a decision she does not regret.
Despite her decision, Seyfried’s career flourished with roles in various films, including “Ted 2,” “First Reformed,” and “Mank.” While Seyfried pondered about the possibility of playing Gamora, this writer believes her gut feeling was correct, and she should stand by her choice.
Marvel’s “Guardians” series became a success, and James Gunn continued to create a trilogy of films before moving on to direct other projects. Seyfried’s career remained unaffected by declining the MCU role, showcasing her talent in multiple acclaimed works.
