Actor Alec Baldwin expressed his dissatisfaction with the results of the 2024 U.S. election, where former President Donald Trump emerged victorious over Vice President Kamala Harris. Baldwin made these remarks at the Turin Film Festival, where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. The festival also marked the premiere of his film “The Hunt for Red October” on November 25th.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin discussed the influence of money on information in America, emphasizing that it has led to a void in knowledge on important global issues like climate change and Ukraine. He believes that the film industry, through documentaries and narrative films, helps fill this void.
Baldwin, known for his environmental activism, highlighted the pressing need to address environmental challenges such as plastic pollution and alternative energy sources. He emphasized the importance of incorporating alternative energy components in various buildings to combat climate change.
Regarding the importance of female directors in the entertainment industry, Baldwin noted the progress made in having more women behind the camera. He recommended the book “Black Box” and its corresponding documentary, which sheds light on sexism in Japanese society.
When discussing his idols in the industry, Baldwin mentioned Humphrey Bogart, William Holden, and Paul Newman as inspirations. He also expressed admiration for contemporary actors like Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins, and Robert De Niro, sharing a memorable experience working with De Niro on “The Good Shepherd.”
Despite his notable achievements in the industry, Baldwin did not address the controversy surrounding the film “Rust” during the festival, where a tragic incident occurred involving the accidental firing of a loaded gun on set, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
