Netflix is surprising Adam Sandler fans with a long-awaited Christmas gift – Happy Gilmore 2. The sequel to the 1996 sports comedy will feature Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Dennis Dugan, Allen Covert, and Ben Stiller reprising their roles. Sandler revealed in 2022 that the film follows Happy Gilmore as he enters a senior golf tour, with McDonald returning as Shooter McGavin and Bowen as Virginia Venit. Stiller also joins the cast, reprising his role as Hal L from the original film and making a crossover from Sandler’s Hubie Halloween.
This upcoming sequel marks the 13th collaboration between Sandler and writing partner Tim Herlihy, who have worked together since Sandler’s early SNL days. Along with the returning cast, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Nick Swardson, and Benny Safdie also join the ensemble, with cameos confirmed from Eminem, Travis Kelce, and Dan Patrick.
Netflix extended its production deal with Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions in 2020 to produce four more films. Before the renewal, the deal brought hits like The Ridiculous 6, Murder Mystery, and The Week Of to the streaming platform. Netflix has hinted that Happy Gilmore 2 will be released sometime in 2025, although no official release date has been announced yet.
