iRobot Corp, a prominent player in the consumer cleaning robot market, has unveiled two innovative models along with the introduction of iRobot OS 7.0, featuring new functionalities such as Dirt Detective and Smart Scrub.
The flagship offerings from iRobot are the Roomba Combo j9+ robot vacuum and mop, and the Roomba j9+ robot vacuum.
The Roomba Combo j9+ includes the Clean Base Auto-Fill Dock, which automatically empties debris and replenishes the robot with liquid — An Auto-Retract Mopping System is also incorporated, preventing the robot from wetting carpets by retracting the mop when carpeted surfaces are detected.
Barry Schliesmann, iRobot’s Chief Product Officer, emphasized the intelligence offered by iRobot OS 7.0 and the expansion of their product range. These new 2-in-1 robots are designed to excel at cleaning various surfaces, from fine dust to stubborn dirt, while seamlessly fitting into users’ homes.
Addressing Common Pitfalls
iRobot prioritized addressing common pitfalls faced by cleaning robots in real-life scenarios, such as stained rugs, getting stuck, and limited learning capabilities. The Roomba Combo j9+ and Roomba j9+ were engineered to tackle these issues head-on, with enhanced engineering and intelligent software.
iRobot OS 7.0
iRobot OS 7.0 introduces personalized cleaning experiences based on users’ habits, homes, and seasonal changes. The Dirt Detective feature automates cleaning based on historical data, prioritizing dirtier rooms and adjusting settings accordingly. The Cleanliness Assessment Map offers a room-by-room cleanliness assessment, while Dirty Room Prioritization ensures effective cleaning by focusing on the most frequently used spaces.
SmartScrub, another feature of iRobot OS 7.0, allows Roomba Combo j9+ and Roomba Combo j7+ users to target specific rooms with deep scrubbing capabilities, offering more thorough cleaning.
2-in-1 Robots
Notably, iRobot’s expansion into 2-in-1 robots includes the Roomba Combo j5+ and Roomba Combo i5+, which function as both vacuums and mops, offering versatility in cleaning modes.
It’s worth mentioning that Amazon’s acquisition of iRobot has faced regulatory scrutiny, with investigations by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the European Union (EU) regarding potential antitrust concerns. Despite these challenges, iRobot continues to innovate and enhance its product offerings in the cleaning robot market.
