TikTok recently announced a round of layoffs in Singapore, with at least a dozen employees affected. This move comes after careful consideration and is part of a global effort to streamline backend teams and align operations with long-term growth plans.
Employees in TikTok’s trust and safety department received letters regarding the reorganization, but it is unclear if other departments were impacted. Sources suggest that teams in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the US were also affected by the cuts.
These layoffs are part of TikTok’s ongoing restructuring efforts, following significant cuts to the workforce in 2024. The company previously laid off a large portion of staff from global user, content, and marketing teams in May 2024.
Five months later, TikTok announced further layoffs worldwide, with a focus on leveraging artificial intelligence for content moderation. This move did not impact staff based in Singapore, where the company is non-unionized but some employees are members of the NTUC-affiliated Tech Talent Assembly.
