Julianne Moore has recently commented on the reported ban of her semi-autobiographical children’s book, Freckleface Strawberry. The book tells the story of a young girl who learns to embrace her freckles as a reflection of the diversity among people. It has been identified by the Department of Defense Education Activity for further review, leading to restricted access for professional staff.
In a memo issued by the DODEA, it was explained that instructional resources and library books related to gender ideology or discriminatory equity ideology are under examination. This review is in line with President Trump’s executive orders on gender ideology and ending radical indoctrination in K-12 schooling.
The Guardian reported that other books under review include No Truth Without Ruth, a picture book about the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Pen America, an organization dedicated to protecting free expression, highlighted these developments on social media.
Julianne Moore expressed her shock and disappointment on Instagram, stating her connection to the U.S. military through her family and education at a DODEA school in Germany. She emphasized the importance of her book in teaching children about unity and shared struggles.
