The top script on the Black List has secured a deal with Universal Pictures. Travis Braun’s highly sought-after script One Night Only has been acquired by Universal Pictures in a competitive auction. The film will be directed by Will Gluck, known for his work on Anyone But You.
Gluck will also serve as a producer through his Olive Bridge Entertainment banner, with Jacqueline Monetta overseeing the project. One Night Only follows the story of two strangers who must find someone to spend the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal in their society.
The script topped the 2024 Black List, a yearly ranking of the best unproduced screenplays. Travis Braun made history by achieving the number one spot for the second consecutive year. In 2023, he topped the list with his project Bad Boy, which was picked up by C2 starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart.
Despite his success with adult-oriented scripts, Braun has a background in children’s entertainment, having worked on shows like T.O.T.S. and Pupstruction. Gluck, on the other hand, has shown his versatility as a writer, director, and producer with credits such as Easy A, Friends with Benefits, Peter Rabbit, and Annie.
The success of Anyone But You, a 2023 romantic comedy, highlighted Gluck’s ability to create commercially successful films. The film featured breakout stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell and was a surprise hit at the box office.
Universal Pictures will be overseeing the new project, with Senior Executive Vice President Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell involved in the production process. Travis Braun is represented by UTA, Echo Lake Entertainment, and Gang, Tyre, while Will Gluck is represented by UTA and Sloane Offer.
Overall, the acquisition of One Night Only by Universal Pictures has generated a buzz in the industry, showcasing the talent of both Travis Braun and Will Gluck in delivering captivating and original storytelling.
