The recent Union Budget presented under the Modi 3.0 administration has been praised for its forward-looking approach towards employment generation, skilling, social justice, and manufacturing, aligning with India’s goal to become a global electronics powerhouse. The Finance Minister’s focus on enhancing the domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem is expected to boost job creation, skill development, and innovation.
One of the key highlights is the proposed national framework to support Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in Tier-2 cities, aiming to promote regional economic growth through local talent, infrastructure upgrades, and industry collaboration. The government’s reforms in the power sector, incentivizing states to improve electricity distribution and transmission, will provide a reliable energy infrastructure for the electronics and semiconductor industries.
Additionally, the budget’s incentives for global semiconductor and electronics firms, including tax benefits and land access, demonstrate India’s commitment to becoming a leader in high-value manufacturing. Tariff reductions on essential mobile phone assembly components will strengthen India’s position in global supply chains, benefitting MSMEs and large-scale manufacturers.
A significant initiative introduced in the budget is ‘Bharat Trade Net’, a unified digital platform to streamline export documentation and enhance trade efficiency for Indian electronics manufacturers. The establishment of five National Centres of Excellence for Skilling will play a crucial role in equipping the workforce with necessary expertise for advanced manufacturing.
The Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) is committed to supporting these initiatives by collaborating on curriculum development, training programs, skills certification, and industry-aligned skilling programs.
