Sara Bareilles Performs Brandi Carlile Co-Written Song for First Time at Sundance

It’s hard to believe that a seasoned performer like Sara Bareilles would get nervous, but the Celebrating Sundance Institute fundraiser at Park City’s Grand Hyatt Deer Valley on Friday night proved to be an exception.

Bareilles took the stage in front of a star-studded audience, including honorees like filmmaker James Mangold and actress Cynthia Erivo. The event also featured appearances by Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter, Glenn Close, Joel Edgerton, Marielle Heller, R.J. Cutler, and Tessa Thompson. Notable guests in attendance included Jon Hamm, Boots Riley, Kimberly Peirce, and more.

Perhaps Bareilles’ nerves were due to her deep connection to the film that brought her to Sundance this year. She is an executive producer of Ryan White’s documentary “Come See Me in the Good Light,” which follows two poets navigating love, life, and mortality. Bareilles co-wrote a song for the film called “Salt Then Sour Then Sweet,” which she performed for the first time at the fundraiser along with her hit song “She Used to Be Mine” from the Broadway musical Waitress.
