Dave Chappelle kicked off Saturday Night Live’s latest episode in 2025 with a bang, addressing various current events. This marked Chappelle’s fourth time hosting the show, alongside musical guest GloRilla. He previously hosted post-election episodes in November 2016, 2020, and 2022. Chappelle made a last-minute decision to host this episode just two days before Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
During his monologue, Chappelle humorously shared the story of how he agreed to host the show after initially turning it down. He joked about the L.A. wildfires and shared his thoughts on the allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Chappelle also touched on various topics like the Luigi Mangione case and Trump’s controversial statements about immigrants in Ohio.
The comedian also reflected on Jimmy Carter’s recent passing and emphasized the importance of empathy and humanity in politics. Chappelle encouraged Trump to do better and wished for a more compassionate approach to governing.
In upcoming episodes, actor Timothée Chalamet will host and perform as the musical guest, continuing SNL’s 50th season celebration. This season will culminate in a three-hour primetime special on Feb. 16. Chalamet’s performance is highly anticipated, with expectations of him potentially performing Bob Dylan covers following his portrayal of the music legend in A Complete Unknown.
