The new standalone Grok app, developed by xAI, is now available for download. This app brings the same features as the AI assistant found on the social media platform X, allowing users to generate images, summarize text, and ask questions in a conversational tone that is both humorous and engaging.
Originally tested with a limited group of users in December 2024, the Grok app is now accessible to everyone, coinciding with the introduction of a free tier of Grok on X. Previously, users had to have a paid X Premium subscription for at least $8 a month to access the AI features.
The free version of Grok may come with some limitations, such as 10 requests every two hours and three image analysis requests per day. Users can log in using their Apple, X, Google, or email accounts. It is unclear if having an X Premium subscription will offer additional benefits within the Grok app.
Unlike other AI assistants, Grok sets itself apart by being able to answer “spicy questions” that other assistants may avoid. Additionally, a version of the Grok AI model is open source. While Grok may face some challenges in terms of accuracy and image generation choices, it provides a unique and entertaining experience for users.
Overall, the Grok app offers a convenient way to access these innovative features without having to go through the X platform.
