President Joe Biden will be awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 individuals, including some well-known Hollywood names, in one of his final official acts before leaving office. The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the country, recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the United States’ prosperity, values, security, world peace, or other significant societal endeavors. The awards ceremony will take place at The White House on Saturday.
Among the recipients are actors Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox, singer Bono, fashion icons Anna Wintour and Ralph Lauren, Lakers co-owner Magic Johnson, chef José Andrés, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, conservationist Jane Goodall, soccer star Lionel Messi, science communicator Bill Nye, and financier George Soros. Additionally, AFI founder George Stevens Jr., investor David Rubenstein, entrepreneur Tim Gill, and posthumous awards for Robert F. Kennedy, Ash Carter, Fannie Lou Hamer, and George Romney will also be honored.
In the previous year, Biden awarded the Medal of Freedom to Michelle Yeoh, Phil Donahue, and Mike Bloomberg.
