Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming English-language film has finally received a release date of October 2, 2026. Fans can anticipate Tom Cruise’s return to auteur-driven cinema in this highly anticipated project. The plot is set to follow “The most powerful man in the world embarking on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s caused destroys everything.”
This untitled film sees Iñárritu collaborating once again with his “Birdman” co-writers Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. The star-studded cast includes Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.
In other film release news, “The Batman II” has been rescheduled from its initial October 2, 2026, release to October 1, 2027. Additionally, Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17” has been moved up from April 18, 2025, to March 7, 2025, while Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” has been pushed back from March 7 to April 18, 2025.
“Mickey 17” follows Robert Pattinson’s character as an “expendable” sent on dangerous missions on an ice planet, where he unexpectedly survives a mission that was intended to kill him. The film also stars Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie, based on the book “Mickey 7” by Edward Ashton.
“Sinners,” directed and written by Ryan Coogler, tells the story of twin brothers, both portrayed by Michael B. Jordan, returning to their New Orleans hometown during the Jim Crow era to start anew, only to encounter a greater evil. Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell also star in the film.
Coogler’s team for “Sinners” includes his frequent collaborators from the “Black Panther” franchise, such as director of photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw, production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, composer Ludwig Göransson, and costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
