Oscar-winning filmmaker Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson is currently making waves in the cinema world. Thompson, known for his work in the hip hop band The Roots and his award-winning documentary “Summer Of Soul,” has several exciting projects in the works. Recently, it was announced that Thompson will be directing a music documentary for NBC titled “Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music,” focusing on the iconic musical guests of “Saturday Night Live” over the years. Additionally, his upcoming documentary “SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)” will premiere on Hulu on Thursday, February 13.
The documentary delves into the life of Sly Stone, the leader of the 1970s funk and soul band Sly And The Family Stone, who was known for his musical genius but also faced personal struggles. The film features interviews with prominent figures in the music industry, as well as members of Sly’s band and family, offering unique insights into his life. Despite Stone’s reclusive nature, the documentary aims to shed light on his legacy and the challenges faced by Black artists in America.
Produced by a team of industry experts, “SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)” has been selected to debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Don’t miss the premiere of this captivating documentary on Hulu on February 13.
