Sarah Michelle Gellar is now open to the idea of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, despite previously being opposed to it. The actress, currently appearing in Dexter: Original Sin, expressed her thoughts on the potential return of the beloved series during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Gellar mentioned that she used to believe the original series was perfect and didn’t need a reboot, but after seeing successful revivals like Sex and the City and Dexter, she now sees the possibility. She highlighted that a reboot doesn’t necessarily have to be a prequel and that the Buffy universe offers numerous storytelling opportunities to explore.
In a recent conversation with SFX Magazine, Gellar mentioned that she is proud of the show they created and emphasized the importance of continuing the story of female empowerment that Buffy represents. While she may not reprise her role as Buffy, she believes the series is set up for someone else to take on the power and continue the legacy.
Aside from Dexter, Gellar has also appeared in the Teen Wolf revival, Wolf Pack, and Do Revenge. The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, which aired from 1997 to 2003, was adapted from the 1992 film starring Kristy Swanson. The show followed Buffy Summers as she fought against vampires, demons, and other dark forces with the help of her friends.
