Ridley Scott Reveals Paul Mescal’s Casting in Sony’s Beatles Film

Ridley Scott’s collaboration with Paul Mescal for an upcoming project may be delayed due to scheduling conflicts, as Mescal is set to star in a Beatles movie directed by Sam Mendes for Sony Pictures. Scott mentioned his next project, a thriller feature titled The Dog Stars, during a conversation with Christopher Nolan after a screening of Gladiator II at the Directors Guild of America. While Scott initially confirmed Mescal’s involvement in The Dog Stars, he later revealed that the actor’s commitment to the Beatles film may prevent them from working together on the new project.

Although the casting decision has not been officially announced by the studio, Mescal has been rumored to play Paul McCartney in one of the four biopics that Mendes plans to make about the iconic band. Each film will focus on a different Beatles member, with McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr each getting their own feature.

In a recent interview, Mescal expressed his excitement about the possibility of playing McCartney in Mendes’ film but remained tight-lipped about the casting decision. Meanwhile, Ringo Starr hinted that Barry Keoghan will be portraying him in the movies and mentioned Joseph Quinn as another potential cast member.

As of now, no official casting announcements have been made, and Sony Pictures has not commented on Scott’s remarks. The studio is gearing up for a unique release strategy for the Beatles project, which has the approval of Apple Corps, the Beatles’ label.

For bold and unconventional projects like this, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman emphasized the importance of matching the idea’s boldness with an equally creative release strategy. The studio is exploring new approaches to releasing the films, considering the unprecedented nature of the project.
