After being chosen 8 times over the years, Wes Anderson lastly won his first-ever Academy Award tonight at the2024 Oscars His brief movie The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar– a 39-minute adjustment of Roald Dahl’s 1977 story of the exact same name– won Ideal Real-time Activity Short Movie, vanquishing The After, Unyielding, Knight of Ton Of Money, and Red, White and Blue. Anderson was absent to approve the award face to face.
“Sometimes I’ve made short films that are genuinely my own thing. They’re basically for fun,” Anderson informed IndieWire last month. “Whereas when I’m making a movie-movie, I’m putting my whole life into it and it has a different gravity for me. But every now and then, I’ve done shorts where they’re totally in the same category as the feature films for me. These Roald Dahl ones are more like a movie-movie for me, because it’s something I’ve been thinking about for so long.”
Back in 2001, Anderson got his very first Academy Award election with The Royal Tenenbaums for Ideal Initial Movie Script. Ever since, he’s obtained responds for Ideal Computer Animated Image with Fantastic Mr. Fox, Ideal Initial Movie Script for Moonrise Kingdom, and Ideal Computer Animated Image for Island of Pets. His most elections can be found in 2014 for The Grand Budapest Resort, with Anderson obtaining responds for Ideal Image, Ideal Supervisor, and Ideal Initial Movie Script.
While tonight’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar win is a very first for Anderson particularly, it’s not his very first film to take home an award.
